Velo Velo: 大肥猪, Tell us more about yourself
Kee Meng: I started cycling when I was about 19, and somehow, found myself in track cycling in 2008. Ever since, I have been largely involved in track cycling, scouting and recruiting road cyclist to join the track cycling team in Singapore. To be perfectly honest, track cycling was where we saw the biggest potential to bring back medals and glory for Singapore. I have recently took on the new appointment of the Track VP in the Singapore Cycling Federation, shifting my focus to groom the current and future riders for our track endeavorers. In 2018, I switched over to join the Para cycling national team with my partner, Steve, for Tandem races. Our immediate goal was the upcoming Tokyo Paralympics, which unfortunately, has been postponed to Aug 2021.
Velo Velo: Share with us what are you currently doing right now during this period ?
Kee Meng: Most of my trainings are now mostly indoor and zwift, joining rides like E-crazies. Training load prescribed by my coach remains the same. Other than trainings, I started to cook and trying to perfect my Roasted Pork recipe, I’m sure you can tell from my size how much I love my food. Also, I’ve been helping out with the delivery at Velo Velo, making sure all orders reaches customers asap.
Velo Velo: 2nd half of 2020 and the near future! What can we expect from you guys? any more races? Tell us more! how can we cheer for u?
Kee Meng: Well, we are expected to compete in the Asian Cycling Championship in Malaysia towards the end of the year. Hopefully racing can resume by then. Of course, our most important target remains with the Tokyo Paralympics, I really hope to be able to bring back medals for Singapore.
Velo Velo: Anything to say to our Velovelo friends / fans out there?
Kee Meng: Being able to deliver the orders personally and see the smile on the customers face and excitement makes me feel a great sense of joy to deliver this small pack of happiness each time. Through this, I also got to know more cyclists, hope to see you guys riding out and say hi if you bump into me!
